Learning Outcome 5

Learning Outcome 5

  • Exemplify ethical practices of technology usage

In-Time Lesson
Using the In-Time resources to create or modify a lesson is not as difficult as one might think or make it look. The In-Time lesson plan I chose to modify is originally by Brad Kruse (2000) and is designed for high school level students. It was originally modified for EDU649: Technologies for Teaching & Learning. The new modifications address the ethical issue of gaining permission to use information and photographs, needing photography releases for photographing people, plagiarism and an understanding of fair use. The modifications are in red. In this document, the first lesson plan was the original modification, the second lesson plan is the newest modification.
Kruse uses a technology lesson to address geography, language arts, history and technology standards and skills (2000). By modifying Kruse’s lesson I can use the lesson as a relevant assignment for my students, while reinforcing the need to make sure to give proper credit for ideas that are not original and teaching students that taking pictures required responsibility. They will be bringing past and present knowledge about their home city together with technology. By finding out about their city, the learning takes the students outside the classroom walls and places them in the real world where they can see what they are learning first-hand and how it may pertain to their lives outside of school.
Additional Materials
There are no additional materials needed to implement this lesson plan within my classroom. The media center at my school has the required equipment and if there is any equipment that might be in disrepair, I can requisition it from the district office media center. By using e-learning, the use of information and computer technologies to create learning experiences (Horton, 2006), I can engage my students in their own learning while teaching them valuable lessons about topics such as plagiarism and copyright law. With the design of the lesson, students will absorb, do and connect the lesson to their own lives. This will help them to understand more of what is being asked of them. (Horton, 2006)
Copyright Issues
I would need to contact In-Time to find out about the usage fees since I have five classes of 36 students. I will be well over the stated limit “using these resources for groups of more than 100,” (Terms of use).
